ACTRESS Wendy Lovelock, who lives in Steyning, met the Princess Royal during an event in London.

Miss Lovelock, of King Alfred Close, was at a reception following the Princess unveiling a commemorative stone to stage and screen legend Dame Anna Neagle and her husband, award-winning film producer and director Herbert Wilcox.

Royal biographer Michael Thornton, who organised the unveiling at the City of London Cemetery in Manor Park, presented Miss Lovelock to Princess Anne.

Miss Lovelock, who grew up in Saltdean, appeared with Anna Neagle in the 1964 stage thriller, Person Unknown. She also appeared on television in series such as The Phoenix and the Carpet in 1977 and Sykes in 1972.

The unveiling on Thursday, March 6, marked a new memorial stone on the family grave, where the Hollywood screen legend had been interred in her married name, Florence Marjorie Wilcox.

Anna Neagle and Herbert Wilcox lived for many years at 18 Lewes Crescent, Kemp Town, which is now marked with a blue plaque. Dame Anna is also commemorated on the Brighton Walk of Fame and both she and Mr Wilcox have had their names on Brighton buses.
