STEYNING Scouts are raising money for new equipment by washing cars.

The 2nd Steyning Scout troop will be at Mayberry Garden Centre, in Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, on Saturday, sponges and buckets in hand.

The Scouts, aged 10 to 14, will be offering to clean the vehicles of garden centre customers, in return for a charity donation.

Assistant Scout leader Nick Ludford said he was looking forward to the event.

“We are hoping that our work will result in us raising some funds to add to our equipment and replace some old for new,” he explained.

“We shall have a team of Scouts ready and waiting, so bring your car down and it shall leave glistening and shining, all cleaned whilst you shop.”

Previous similar events at the centre have raised much-needed money for local good causes.

Mayberry manager Darren Clift said: “I shall certainly be bringing down my car, as I don’t think it has had a proper wash since our last charity car wash!”

Scouts will be available for the car wash on Saturday, March 29, from 10am to 2pm and staff have been busy making sure everything’s in place.
