Recognition for county’s autism team

A TEAM which supports young children with autism and Social Communication Difficulties has received a national seal of approval.

West Sussex County Council’s Social Communication Team, which works with pupils and staff in mainstream primary schools, has achieved an Autism Accreditation Award from the National Autistic Society.

The work of the team was scrutinised by the National Autistic Society and it was nominated for an Autism Accreditation Excellence Award, which recognises schools and services which are putting in exceptional levels of care and effort.

It has reached a shortlist of three and the winner will be announced in March.

Peter Evans, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for Children-Start of Life, said: “I am delighted this excellent team has received an endorsement from this respected society.

“It shows the quality of the work they do with teachers and school staff to help children with autism progress with their education.”
