Planes put in danger by Shoreham lasers

POLICE are warning of the dangers of lasers following a number of incidents in the Shoreham area.

Between Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 25, pilots flying in and out of Gatwick Airport reported being targeted by lasers on six occasions while flying over the town.

Sergeant Steven Turner, from the Adur and Worthing Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Directing laser devices towards aircraft in flight to dazzle or distract the pilot is a criminal offence as it represents a considerable threat to the lives of the people on board and on the ground.

“These are not toys and we would appeal to parents to be aware of the dangers lasers pose and discourage their children from using them.”

If anyone has any information or has seen lasers being used, contact 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk, or speak to Crimestoppers on 0845 555 111.
