Pensioners’ vouchers may be withdrawn
ADUR Council looks likely to end its Travel Voucher Scheme for pensioners and disabled people.
The move will mean residents in the district will no longer be able to exchange their concessionary bus pass for vouchers usable in taxis and community transport services.
A decision is expected to be made this week by Angus Dunn, cabinet member for resources.
The council-funded scheme offered £15 worth of travel vouchers, valid for one year.
There are currently 356 people using the vouchers, of whom 16 are disabled.
The rethink has come about as part of the complete transfer of concessionary fares administration to the private sector on March 31.
District and borough councils have been carrying out the service since April, 2011, but West Sussex County Council announced last year that it would be looking for a single provider.
It put the service out to tender last year and Euclid won the contract.
Adur’s discretionary voucher service was provided as an alternative to bus passes and funded by the district council.
A report by Kevin Masters, executive head of customer services, states: “In view of the diminishing customer base, increasing unit cost, and small value of the vouchers themselves, it is recommended that the travel voucher scheme is terminated on March 31, 2013.”
Letters will be sent to affected customers, once the decision is finalised, outlining the end of the service and explaining the new arrangements.
