BUILDING on growing membership levels is the aim of new Adur East Lions Club president Gillian Anderson.

She took office on July 1 and the changeover was celebrated by club members at a strawberry cream tea, held at one of the members’ houses.

Mrs Anderson said: “I’m very proud to have been elected president of Adur East Lions Club for the coming year.

“We’re a small club with a big heart who really enjoy raising money for local good causes and because we are a happy, sociable club, we are doing well at attracting potential new members, which I am hoping to build on throughout the coming Lions year.”

Members were joined by friends, family and potential new members, to see outgoing club president Lion Susan Saunders hand over the chain of office.

She said: “The sun also decided to make an appearance, which all combined to make a very enjoyable event for all.”

Ms Saunders thanked the club for all its support during the year and said without it, it would have been impossible to achieve so much.

The club would like to hear from people interesting in joining, even if they can offer only a few hours a month.
