Keeping fit in Shoreham is a walk in the park

CHILDREN and adults alike can become gym bunnies, just by going to the park.
Hundreds of people went along to Buckingham Park, in Shoreham, when a new £20,000 outdoor fitness area was officially opened.
The outdoor gym was paid for with a grant from Viridor Credits scheme, following an application from community group FATA (Fitness Across the Ages), working with Adur District Council’s park officers.
Debbie Kennard, who represents the ward on Adur council, said: “This is just fantastic. To see so many mums and children exercising together in their local park after a summer full of Olympic sporting achievements is wonderful.
“We must thank Viridor, who again have shown their commitment and funding to local communities, our community group FITA and to all of the park users who turned up at the consultations, even on the wet miserable afternoons earlier this year.”
Wendy Knight, a spokeswoman for the council, said the project had produced a “much-needed community facility for everyone to be able to access and enjoy for free within their local park”.
In the grant application, members of FATA said the facility would encourage exercise while having fun.
It went on: “We want to encourage healthier living, by providing fitness equipment that is free.”
