FOCUS on You, the Herald’s slot for readers’ pictures, experienced highs and lows in August.

Unusually, we were running low of contributions early in the month, so a plea was put out on the Shoreham Herald Facebook page.

Luckily, that brought in some wonderful contributions - along with some confused questions.

What pictures do we accept? Anything printable basically! Many people choose wildlife and landscape scenes but other things qualify too.

Roberta Edwards even sent him some historical pictures, showing Ropetackle before it was demolished.

There were two different angles, one from the River Adur by the old Norfolk Bridge and the other showing the otherside.

Jane Cosham, of Hawkins Crescent, Shoreham, spotted not one, but two common blue butterfly on Mill Hill.

“Not seen these before, certainly not the underside of the wings anyway,” she said.

She also sent in a lovely picture taken when riding her horse.

“A beautiful evening enjoyed with my faithful companion,” she said. “Hope you like the picture, Shoreham is such a gorgeous place.”

Sonja Fox took a picture of swans on Worthing beach.

Liam Funnell sent in pictures of Worthing beach, sunset from the South Downs, sunset over Brighton Pier and beach huts on Hove Lagoon.

Melita Ogden send in lovely picture of blackberry pickers.

“Our little explorers on the Old Toll Bridge, off to pick the first blackberries of the season, from left to right, Eva and Amelie Bishop and Lilly and Heidi Ogden,” she said.

Craig Searle sent in a picture taken on August 17, during one of the free tours at Shoreham Fort. These happen every other Sunday at 1pm and 3pm.

David Tarr, of North Street, Shoreham, gave the warning ‘never dive in the shallow end!’ with his picture of pigeons.

“The pigeon is enjoying a bath and getting told off for diving in the shallow end,” he said.

He also sent in a picture of his nine-foot sunflower, looking good in the sunshine, and a selection from the dragon boat race day at Shoreham RiverFest.

He spotted a woman ‘making a statement’ in front of the watching crowds, a flypast from the ‘White Arrows’ and two of the many teams fighting it out to the finish on the River Adur.

Suzi Bishop captured some lovely reflections at 6.30 in the morning on August 22, along the River Adur.

Pauline Baitup, of Howard Road, Sompting, sent in a picture of a ‘cheeky mouse’ she spotted in her garden on Sunday, August 24.

The plea on Facebook also brought in a nice collection posted by John Challen, Kelly Welly Woo, Sam Beeton, Cara Lee Townsend, Kerry Stanton and David Russell.
