Gales damaged the gable end of a house in Woodlands Avenue, Rustington

Gales brought down part of a house in Rustington last night (November 24).

Firefighters were called to Woodlands Avenue when high winds brought down the outer skin of the gable end of a house.

The dangerous structure was attended by one appliance, along with building control officers.

The house was sealed off by red tape.

Elsewhere in West Sussex, firefighters were busy dealing with fallen trees and minor damage to properties.

A tree came down in Cotswold Road, Worthing. Highways officers were called in and this morning, workmen had already cut up most of the tree, on a small green on the corner of Chiltern Crescent.

An aerial came down in Eirene Avenue, Worthing, and a roof panel had to be made safe in The Boulevard, Goring.

Severe gales battered many southern and eastern areas over the weekend, killing a woman in Exeter and injuring two others.
