Fears for jobs at Blockbusters as company becomes latest to call in administrators

editorial image

DVD rental firm Blockbuster has become the third major firm to go into administration this year.

The move places around 4,000 jobs at risk, including staff at its Worthing branch in Chapel Road, and branches at Shoreham and Littlehampton.

It follows the demise of Jessops in Worthing, which encountered similar financial woes, with 2,000 jobs across the country being affected by its collapse.

Administrators Deloitte said it would be working with suppliers to try and find a potential buyer for the company to save its collapse.

With 528 stores across the country, the company has suffered against online film rental companies. Its own plans to launch a similar system have so far failed to be fully implemented.

Unlike other retailers including HMV and Jessops, the company is honouring gift cards during the administration period. For full story seen next edition of the Worthing Herald (January 24).
