MORE than 100 paintings and artwork went on show for Southwick Art Club’s annual exhibition, marking the club’s 65th anniversary.

Visitors were quick to snap up some of the paintings on sale at Southwick Community Centre from Saturday to Monday.

President Robin Durant said: “We had a really successful exhibition. It is an important event for the club, helping to keep it going.

“We sold a lot of paintings and took more than £1,000, including the sale of postcards.

“The club started in 1949 with just two artists and in 1979 it was renamed Southwick Art Club. We have gained quite a lot of new members over the last few years and now have about 25.

“We meet every week, which is unusual for clubs these days.”

Southwick Art Club meets in the Glebe Room at the community centre, in Southwick Street, on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Meetings include work-along sessions, demonstrations and visiting artists. Anyone who has a love of art is welcome. Visit southwickartclub.weebly.com for more information.
