AN ELECTRICIAN has secured one of just 17 jobs to install a firm’s national energy smart meter roll-out scheme.
Michele Daniels, 21, from Worthing, will take part in an 18-month training programme learning how to resolve technical difficulties connecting firms up to smart meters, after accepting the role at UK Power Networks.
He said: “I’m a fully-trained electrician but I wanted a change and to work somewhere with good career prospects which would allow me to develop my skills.”
The national smart meter roll-out is led by the UK’s energy suppliers and requires them to install smart meters across Britain between 2015 and 2020.
Paul Morris, smart meter intervention planning manager at UK Power Networks, said: “This new recruitment programme is a key part of our strategy to support energy suppliers with the smart meter roll-out.
“We are delighted to be recruiting our first smart meter intervention trainees dedicated to helping the national smart meter roll-out work as smoothly as possible.”
