Crematorium memorabilia to be cleared

ITEMS of memorabilia are to be cleared from gardens at Worthing Crematorium.

The decision was made following a ‘dramatic increase’ in the number of items left, including statues, vases, fencing, plot markers, plaques, wind chimes, garden ornaments, fake flowers and baskets.

The Spring Glade will be the first area to be cleared. Items will be will taken on Friday and held in the main office for collection until February 28. Those not collected will be disposed of.

Wendy Knight, communications officer for Adur and Worthing councils, said that complaints about memorabilia have outweighed the positive feedback, with some visitors upset that others have marked communal plots and hung items from trees.

Fresh flowers and small potted plants are allowed.
