A BUTCHER has been given permission to move in next door to a fishmonger in Shoreham.

Malpass Direct, which sells meat primarily to trade and in bulk to individuals, has been given permission to change the use of a distribution centre in Brighton Road to a warehouse with shop.

The site is currently occupied by Edgars Cool Water, which is relocating, and is next to La Poissonnerie.

Speaking at Adur District Council’s planning committee meeting on Monday, cabinet member Pat Beresford said: “It is nice and convenient the fact you will be able to drive in there and get your sausages and get your cod at the same time.

“It seems a sensible application on a sensible site.”

He said it would not impact on future plans for the Western Harbour Arm, because it was using the same building, so it made sense. If the time came to redevelop in future, it would not make any difference.

Peter Barnett, principal planning officer, explained that the long-term plan was to redevelop the area with a mix of residential and business, so a long-term commitment was not appropriate. Temporary permission was therefore granted, for four years.
