Bollards for busy Steyning street are agreed

BOLLARDS are to be installed in Tanyard Lane, Steyning, in a bid to tackle congestion issues in the busy road.

Yellow lines had been proposed after some residents raised concerns over pressures on parking there.

But Chanctonbury County Local Committee, meeting at the Steyning Centre last Wednesday, has decided that Traffic Regulation Order proposal should now be withdrawn.

Instead, measures that would improve road safety but not affect parking or disadvantage residents were considered.

“The high level of parking has led to congestion and impeded visibility on what is an already busy, narrow and windy residential road,” the committee was told in a report.

“During the times of the morning and afternoon school run, congestion has resulted in vehicles mounting the pavement to pass one another and buses having to reverse when unable to pass parked vehicles.”

It was agreed a series of bollards should be installed at strategic locations along Tanyard Lane to stop vehicles mounting the pavement.

Steyning Parish Council chairman David Barling and vice-chairman Tim Lloyd, who were at the meeting, said afterward that they welcomed this decision.

A meeting with residents will now be organised to discuss the precise positioning of the bollards.
