A MUM has raised more than £700 for Herons Dale Primary School as a thank you for all it has done for her son.

Debbie McConnell said there was no doubt the school, in Hawkins Crescent, Shoreham, was the right place for five-year-old Preston, who has autistic spectrum disorder.

She organised the UR Awesome autism awareness event at the school on November 30 to raise money for its minibus fund.

She said: “I basically wanted to put on an autism awareness event when I found out my son has autistic spectrum disorder and when I knew he got a place at Herons Dale school, I thought I would raise money for the school. They are desperate for a new minibus and so all profit is going to the fund.”

Debbie, who is referrals co-ordinator for the Foster Care Agency at Riverside Business Centre, in Brighton Road, Shoreham, collected a bundle of auction and raffle prizes from local businesses.

She said the event, which included a visit from Hello Kitty and a princess and pirate dressing up competition, was a great success.
