A Shoreham nine-year-old’s passion for animals has won her a family safari to Africa and the title Britain’s Young Adventurer of the Year.

Caitlin Hillier-Kidston, a pupil at Buckingham Park Primary School, was chosen by judges at Chessington World of Adventures Resort and will now be the official African adviser for its new attraction, ZUFARI: Ride into Africa!

Her short video entry impressed judges as it clearly demonstrated her passion for animals, adventurous spirit and top-notch presenting skills.

Caitlin said she was really excited. “I really love animals and can’t wait to go on safari both in Africa and then at Chessington, too – it’s a dream come true!” she added.

“I’ll make sure I keep a close eye on all of the animals to help the people at Chessington with their new ride.”

TV presenter Naomi Wilkinson, who helped judge the competition, commented: “Caitlin clearly has a passion for animals and loves watching wildlife shows.

“She’s also adventurous and really enjoys being outdoors which, as well as being a natural behind the camera, makes her the perfect person to hold the title.”

David Smith, divisional director at Chessington, said Caitlin’s feedback after her trip to Africa would be used to help to make sure the new ride was as accurate a safari experience as is possible. It will open on March 20.
