ONE lane of the A27 has been blocked since the weekend, causing severe delays and tailbacks on one of the region’s busiest roads.
Traffic has been crawling and tailbacks have been stretching back to the Hillbarn traffic lights and beyond all week, especially during rush hour.
A Highways Agency spokesman said safety was the top priority, and that the lane had been closed to clear floodwater which had come from nearby saturated land.
Speaking on Tuesday, he said: “We currently have two large machines on site which are clearing the floodwater from spilling onto the road, helping to reduce the need for further closures.
“Our contractors are working to clear the floodwater and will re-open the lane as soon as it is safe to do so.”
