Friends of Shoreham Fort dressed in period costume and tours of the fort were given by chairman Gary Baines.

Secretary Sharon Penfold said: “There were lots of smiling children’s faces as they received payment of the Queen’s shilling for their participation in the parade ground drill.

“It was really lovely to see the fort so busy. Shoreham Fort is such a unique asset to Adur and Worthing, so it’s great to be able to put our events on and bring the fort and her history to life.”

Not only were the Friends taking part in the national Heritage Open Days, they we were also hosting a FAM(iliarisation) Day for the On Your Doorstep Campaign.

Mrs Penfold explained: “The On Your Doorstep (OYD) campaign seeks to engage, enthuse and entice the people of Adur and Worthing to build a pride and passion about the area where they live.”
