AN expert on Barrios, ‘the South American Chopin of the guitar’, will be giving a special lecture in Shoreham.
Carlos Salcedo Centurion, a world authority on the subject of Paraguayan composer Agustin Barrios Mangoré, is in town visiting international concert guitarist Richard Durrant.
Tour manager Louise Durrant said: “It is quite a coup that we have his first British lecture in Shoreham.
“This programme is a must for anyone interested in guitar music, South American affairs, arts, history and legend.
“Also, it is a chance to hear some of the most eclectic and beautiful guitar music ever written for the six-strings instrument.”
Travelling across the Americas along the Mangore Trail for two decades, Salcedo has been in search of the clues that help tell an inspiring story.
The lecture will be at St Mary de Haura Church, in Shoreham town centre, on Wednesday, October 15, at 7.30pm. It is unticketed with a retiring collection and refreshments will be available.
Salcedo will be joined by Richard, who was invited to the South American country in 2011 by the Paraguayan National Congress to present his all-Barrios album, The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay.
It was the first international launching of a Barrios CD in Paraguay and the album’s critical acclaim prompted repeated invitations for South American tours.
