GALLERY: Southwick and Fishersgate summer show

It was one of the most competitive shows for years and three cups were shared.

John Cole and Ian Swyer shared the Gorringe Challenge Cup for flowers.

Jayne Pumfrey and Nikki Dabbs shared the Harvey Bowl for open floral art classes.

Terry Boxall and Ruth Stanyon shared the Albert Pettit Memorial Cup for open domestic classes.

There was also a tie for the Banksian Medal between John Cole and Ian Swyer but it was awarded to John Cole on the basis of winning most first prizes.

The annual flower and produce show was held at Southwick Community Centre and on entering the Barn Hall, visitors were treated to a glorious show of colour.

Dahlias and gladioli provided particularly impressive displays.

The vegetable, cookery and floral art classes were also well supported.

Children from Glebe Primary School entered paintings of daisy art, while children from Church Lane Nursery entered collages of daisy art. The judge was impressed by the standard of the entries.

Southwick Ukulele Players performed as planned but as the weather turned showery and blustery during the afternoon, it meant they had to perform indoors and the charity stalls had to cover up their goods from time to time.
