SOUTHWICK fishermen have netted hundreds of pounds for charity.
Three clubs were involved in an inter-club competition in Shoreham Harbour on Sunday, September 1.
A total of 23 people from Southwick Deep Sea Angling Club (SDSA) and South Coast Angling Club (SCAC) battled for prizes in the Steve Shaw Competition.
Adur Deep Sea Angling Club (ADSAC) was unable to take part in the fishing but helped with the fund raising.
Organiser Nick Maxted, the SDSA commodore, won the individual competition with an 11lb 6oz thornback ray.
Second was B. Jenkins from SDSA with a 2lbs 4oz plaice and third was M. Walker from SCAC with an 11lb 3oz undulate ray.
Peter Carter explained points were awarded on the basis of percentage of specimen size, to make the competition fair.
Overall, SDSA finished on 247 points and SCAC had 140 points.
Mr Carter said: “A total of £460 was raised for St Barnabas House hospice, which looked after Steve Shaw when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“All monies raised, including the anglers prize fund, were donated to the charity.”
Mr Shaw was a member of SDSA before becoming a charter skipper, operating out of Shoreham Harbour
