IT WON’T just be the summer sun making people feel hot, hot, hot in Shoreham this weekend as the town’s popular Chilli Festival makes its return.

The free festival, now in its fifth year, has previously seen thousands of people flock to the town to put their taste buds into overload.

And this weekend’s event, presented by Chilli Fest UK, is expected to be no different, with organisers confident it will be one of biggest ones yet.

Event co-ordinator David Steadman is excited about all the action, which will be running alongside the Shoreham Farmers’ Market.

“It’s going to be an awesome weekend,” he said, “with live music, chilli eating competitions running on both days.

“It should be a lot bigger than before.”

The festival will once again be returning to Coronation Green on both Saturday and Sunday (July 11 and 12).

Chilli-lovers will be able to sink their teeth into a whole host of spicy attractions, including hot curries, barbecues, chilli cheeses, sauces and dips.

There will also be a selection chilli beers, seeds and cocktails to sample.

David, who first helped to inspire the action five years ago, said he was thrilled at how it had evolved since then.

“We’re trendsetters,” said David, who admitted he wasn’t a lover of spicy cuisine. “We were the first people to have the festival and now it’s grown and grown into a national event, with festivals all over the country.”

He added: “It’s a great event, great for the traders and great for Shoreham.”

The festival will be running from 10am to 5pm.
