Fake plumber among string of burglaries

An opportunistic burglar masquerading as a plumber is one of many break-ins and burglaries reported by police this month.

On February 17, entry was believed to have been gained to a home in Adur Drive in Shoreham via a lean-to at the back of the property. A tidy search was completed and builders tools, a lap top and a handbag were stolen.

Between 8.30am and 10am on the same day, a property in King Edward Avenue in Worthing was broken into. Tool marks were found around the door lock on the back door and entry was gained.

A tidy search was completed and high value electronic items had been unplugged ready to go.

A Blu-Ray player, a Fitbit and headphones were stolen.

Between 10am and 4pm on February 17, an attempt was made to gain access to a property in Park Road, Worthing by ripping off a door handle. The door handle was found on communal stairs by a neighbour.

On February 20, in Brecon Close, Salvington, a distraction burglary was carried out. According to police, the suspect attended the address of the victim and asked to inspect the drains, stating that he was from ‘Stone Walter’. He then entered the living room and stole money from the victim’s wallet.

Between February 20 and 21, in Cecilian Court, Worthing, a car seat valued at around £40 was stolen from an insecure porch.

A laptop and a jewellery box were stolen at a property in Tennyson Road in Worthing between February 19 and 20. Entry was gained by unknown means, police said.

At a home in Downview Road, Worthing, between February 22 and 23, a tidy search was carried out and an X-Box and games were stolen.

A bike was stolen from a shed in Sackville Road, Worthing between February 8 and 17, and a specialised bicycle was stolen from a garage in Furze Road, Worthing between February 18 and 20.
