An exhibition showcasing the Lions Club’s community service is set to open.
Celebrating the work of the Adur East Lions Club, the exhibition will open at Southwick’s Manor Cottage Heritage Centre on July 1.
Lions International was formed in the USA in 1917, and Lions have been working in the local area since 1957.
Adur East Lions, covering Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate, was formed in 2000.
They meet at the Sussex MS Centre on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
In 2016 Adur East Lions distributed £19,969 to more than 40 local groups including the Shoreham Rowing Club, the Sussex MS Centre and Southwick Rangers Football Club.
They raise funds in many ways including the annual donkey derby and classic vehicle rally at Buckingham Park, the annual tour of Father Christmas and his sleigh, and the ever popular Santa’s Grotto at Mayberry’s Gdarden Centre, which is a combined effort with Brighton Lions.
The exhibition in the Manor Cottage will describe the work of the local Lions over the years and their current activities to support local groups.
The exhibition is open on Saturdays from July 1 to 29, 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Admission is free but donations are invited to help maintain the historic Manor Cottage.
Mary Candy, Southwick Society chairman, said: “The Lions are a great organization who have supported many local organizations. They make an important contribution to the local community and the Southwick Society is pleased to be able to give them the chance to showcase their work in the Manor Cottage Heritage Centre. There are always things to see in the Cottage and we invite everybody to come and see them”.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to win a £25 voucher for local restaurant Tosca, or a Garden Centre voucher (subject to terms and conditions which will be available on site, there is no charge for taking part). The vouchers have been generously donated.
