Children at Herons Dale Primary School competed in a TV-style talent show on Monday, July 18, performing a variety of skills for their classmates and families.

Staff at the school, which caters for children with a range of learning difficulties, had been searching for a fun way to mark the end of the school term and decided that a talent show was the perfect choice.

“We wanted to celebrate all the talents the children have”, said Georgie Munday, a first year teacher at Herons Dale.

The event was watched by 100 people and featured two performances, one in the morning for the school and one in the afternoon for parents.

Pupils auditioned one by one with their chosen performances, with 40 taking part in total in 12 acts. A wide range of talents were on display, including football skills, songs, dancing, cup skills, karate and gymnastics.

Winners were chosen by a judging panel made up of ex-pupils who are now at Oak Grove College.

A solo artist took the top spot, with a dance group featuring two singers coming in second.

“The children could not stop talking about it for ages. They’re already asking me if they can audition for next year”, added Ms Munday.

The event also featured a performance of the signing choir, who perform their shows in sign language.
