STUNNING stunts and carousels of colour made for a morning of culture and entertainment.
Students at Shoreham Academy were treated to a traditional Chinese circus performance, by Brighton-based H2O Entertainment.
Melanie Wood, head of languages at the school, said the show had been fantastic.
“It was amazing, and the students were all overwhelmed by it. One teacher said her year-eight students were never enthusiastic about anything, but when they got back from the show, they were buzzing.”
The school has had international status for the last six years, she added.
“It’s about widening the students’ horizons,” she said. It is vitally important they understand other cultures. You do not fear what you understand, and this is the way to get rid of racism and intolerance.”
Performer Hui Ling showed off her foot juggling talents, throwing items such as parasols and plants in the air, and keeping them there with her feet. There were also displays of the diablo, which students themselves got involved in, and ribbon dancing. As well as that, Chinese new year was celebrated, and explained.
