A cyclist is in a critical condition after a collision with a car driven by a man from Worthing.

At 3.50am on Saturday, a 28-year-old man from Hove was found lying unconscious in the middle of Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, near its junction with Lancaster Street.

It is thought he may have been riding a pedal cycle when he collided with a vehicle that didn’t stop at the scene.

The man sustained serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he is in a critical condition.

The car involved was traced by police and found to be a Volkswagen Golf driven by a 20-year-old man from Worthing. He was unhurt.
