Family home robbed by men with machete

Police are appealing to the public after three balaclava-clad men with a machete robbed a Worthing couple while their children were in the house.

Three men wearing balaclavas and dark clothing forced their way into a Worthing couple’s home and threatened them with a machete before stealing several hundreds of pounds cash, according to Sussex Police.

The incident happened in Varey Road, Durrington, shortly before 7pm on Sunday, October 16 while the couple, 28 and 30, were watching television and their two children, 10 and four, were in another room watching a film.

One of the suspects kicked in the door and demanded money while brandishing a machete and swearing. On being handed banknotes the robbers fled the area in a vehicle, police say.

The first offender was white, 6ft, of skinny build, wearing a black knitted balaclava, black jumper or hoodie, navy blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes, black knitted gloves and trainers. He spoke with a southern accent.

The second man was also white, 5ft 6ins, stocky build, with a northern accent, and similarly dressed, all in black.

The third man was 6ft, and again wearing a balaclava, black gloves and dark clothing.

Investigating, DC Simmonds said: “This was a frightening experience for a family relaxing in their own home. We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at the relevant time and place.”
