Community angels to be celebrated

‘UNSUNG angels’ in the communities of Adur and Worthing are to be celebrated this year by Adur and Worthing councils in a new awards scheme.

The competition is divided into three different categories in each area: young volunteer, which is open to anyone aged 25 or under; community group of the year, which is open to any group in either area, and most inspiring volunteer of the year, which is open to anyone.

All those who wish to nominate someone have to do is complete the a form and tell the council exactly why they think their nominated person is a community angel.

Nominations close on March 3.

Once the nominations have closed a short listing panel will sit to decide who the winning nominees will be.

The winners will then be invited to receive their awards at the relevant council’s full council meeting in April.

All winners will receive an award for themselves, a family ticket for four to the Splash FM Garden party in July, a meal voucher for a celebratory night out, and £100 for their group.

A spokesman for the councils said: “We all know somebody who works tirelessly in our communities for the good of others. We want to celebrate those special people.”
