ST BARNABAS: Sunflower Memories Appeal set to return this summer

Our Sunflower Memories Appeal will be taking place again for the fifth year in June, providing supporters and friends of St Barnabas House with the opportunity to remember a loved one, and at the same time, help support the hospice.

In return for a donation, a Sunflower Memory Marker will have the name of the person to whom the dedication is made, handwritten on it. The sunflowers will then be displayed at the hospice throughout June, when they will be available for supporters to keep as a memento if they wish.

During June our chaplain, Stephen Gurr, will conduct two blessings in memory of all those to whom a sunflower has been dedicated.

While grief is a natural part of life, it can also be a difficult and devastating experience, affecting people in different ways – how they feel, how they function, how they relate to those around them. The experience is different for each person. The St Barnabas House Bereavement Service offers support to the family and friends of patients who have received care from the hospice, whether that has been in the community, in hospital, as a Day Hospice patient or staying on the In-Patient Unit.

It is led by the bereavement services co-ordinator, who manages a team of bereavement counsellors and volunteers who are trained and supervised within the hospice. We offer bereavement support at the hospice or at home, and will also help find local bereavement support for those who live further away.

This support can include individual support as well as several events such as monthly early bereavement groups, social evenings, a thanksgiving service, and our annual Light Up a Life service where we remember the lives of loved ones who have died.
