Four teenagers and a woman were plucked out of the water by Shoreham RNLI early yesterday evening.

They were said to be shaken up and cold but not harmed.

The inshore lifeboat was scrambled at 5.45pm to a report of five people in the water after their quad rowing boat had capsized near Riverside, Shoreham.

Once on scene, the crew rescued the rowers and put them into the inshore lifeboat. They were then taken back to the lifeboat station on Kingston Beach, where they were checked over by an ambulance crew.

Senior helm Mark Hayes said: “We took the young rowers and their coxswain back to the station. They were shaken up and cold but luckily unharmed.”

The shout was the third in two days, as June got off to a busy start for the Shoreham lifeboat crew.

On Sunday, the D class inshore lifeboat was launched just after 4pm, to assist with the search for a missing three-year-old boy on Hove beach.

But once the lifeboat arrived on scene, the crew was told the boy had been found and reunited with his parents.

Then at 6.12pm, the inshore lifeboat was launched again to a report of a kite surfer who appeared to be in distress west of Shoreham Harbour.

The crew found the kite surfer had made his way safely to shore. They recovered his board and returned it to him.
