SCOUTS had no problems with getting wet when it came to raising money for their troop.

Members of 2nd Steyning Scout Group took up sponges and buckets to wash cars at Mayberry Garden Centre, in Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, last Saturday.

More than £200 was raised by the car washing scouts, despite the wet weather over last weekend.

This is the second time the Scout group has taken part in the event and group scout leader Jayne Michalska said she was grateful to the garden centre for including the youngsters.

“On behalf of 2nd Steyning Scout Group, I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff for allowing us to, once again, take part in the charity car wash,” she said.

“We washed 40 cars and made more than last year. The money will be put towards our summer camp activities that will be in Ferny Crofts in the New Forest this year.

“I can’t believe that we did so well in the rain! The children were cold and wet through, but they all certainly had fun.”
