A WEB design firm started as a one-man operation from a garage has experienced ‘phenomenal growth’ in its four years of business.

Pixel by Pixel, in Chapel Road, Worthing, has been nominated in the small business and innovation categories of this year Adur and Worthing Business Awards.

The website-building business has enjoyed growth by at least 50 per cent every year but has already seen more than 100 per cent growth in its current financial year.

Founder Chris Painter said: “Pixel by Pixel has achieved so much in such a short space of time but this is just the beginning of our story.

“We are not only growing as a business, we are training young people, working to inspire fellow local businesses and doing our bit for the community.

“We deserve to win the award because we have put West Sussex on the map when it comes to our industry – but are determined to remain as a Worthing business booming thanks to our work and links with local people.”

The company was started by Mr Painter as a one-man operation based in his garage.

It has developed from being a small business working solely with local customers to becoming one of the leading SME e-commerce developers in Europe.

It has worked with a wide range of organisations from places like Northbrook College locally, to Manchester City Football Club and the International Olympic Committee nationally.

Mr Painter said: “In the last year, two of our biggest successes have been with the IOC and Manchester City, but our work for both is so hush-hush we can’t say any more.

“What we can say is that those contracts have helped lead to growth of more than 100 per cent in 2014/15 already, compared to 2013/14, which was itself the third successive year of growth for the company.”

Aside from its major contracts, the firm does reduced rate work with some local organisations.

It is also working with Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce about several projects

“We are very aware of the hurdles in starting, running and growing a successful business, and very much want to help the next generation by passing on some of the skills we’ve learned along the way,” Mr Painter added.

Nominations have opened across 15 categories, from green business to business personality, with prizes to be presented at Worthing Pavilion on November 14.
