THE body of the woman lost at sea on December 21 has been found.
At 8am on Saturday, a member of the public discovered the body of a woman on the beach at Cuckmere Haven.
Sussex Police said: “The body has now been identified as that of 36-year-old Joanna Brown, of Ewart Street, Brighton, who had not been seen since she ran into the sea at the beach in Brighton shortly after 2am on Saturday, December 21.
“Her reason for running into the water is still not clear, but her death is not being treated as suspicious and the Brighton and Hove coroner’s officer is continuing enquiries.”
Shoreham lifeboatmen had battled stormy seas to search for the missing woman but despite hours of searching in difficult conditions, the RNLI crew and mobile coastguards could find no trace.
She had gone into the sea off Brighton, between the two piers, and the Shoreham all-weather lifeboat was launched at 2.40am on Saturday, December 21, in gale-force winds and heavy seas to look for her.
