BASEPOINT Shoreham has presented its nominated charity, Chestnut Tree House, with a cheque for £1,392 after raising funds at a 10k running challenge and family open day.

Stephanie George, centre manager, took part in the 10k running challenge with more than 1,000 people on a route across the Littlehampton seafront.

The race organisers arranged live music for various parts of the course, and supporters were out in force on the sunny day.

Stephanie finished in a time of 1hr 14 min, raising £545 for Chestnut Tree House.

The money Stephanie raised was then match-funded by Basepoint’s parent company, The ACT Foundation.

Stephanie said: “Having never run any sort of distance before, I was feeling quite nervous – especially as the training itself had proven such a big shock to the system.

“The support of the crowd really helped spur me on.

“I’m proud of my achievement and raising such a great amount of money for a wonderful charity.”

Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in Sussex and cares for more than 280 children and young adults.
