AN EIGHT-year-old is celebrating a double success after a summer in the skies with his radio controlled model aircraft.

As the youngest member of the Sussex Radio Flying Club, Kayden Selley of Upper Beeding has won his wings by qualifying to fly solo, and taking a national British Model Flying Association (BMFA) ‘A’ certificate.

Kayden was taught by his dad Dave Molony at the club’s Coombes airfield, above the Steyning Bowl.

Sussex Radio Flying Club is the county’s largest, and celebrating its 50th birthday.

Nearly 200 members include the current UK national scale champion, and a former Concorde training captain.

Kayden is seen (pictured right) receiving his solo certificate from examiner Pim Smith of Ferring.

And just to keep it in the West Sussex family, Kayden’s model is a Wot 4 from Steyning based designer Chris Foss.

Chris’s award winning range of powered models and gliders is internationally renowned.

The famous club was formed in 1962 and was affiliated to the BMFA in 1964, and encourages all radio control model flying.
