Hundreds of people enjoyed a night to remember when the cream of the South Coast business world were celebrated at the Adur and Worthing Business Awards.

There was a Who’s Who of the West Sussex business world in attendance at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing for the event tonight, which is hosted by the Herald newspaper and in association with Adur and Worthing councils and the Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce.

The big winner on the night was Shoreham Vehicle Auctions which took both the overall business and large business awards

The audience were told that the Lancing based Shoreham Vehicle Auctions recently underwent a change of ownership in 2009 and since then staff numbers have doubled, sales of vehicles have increased by 45 per cent, Turnover has doubled and profit increased significantly.

They took to the stage to a round of applause and were interviewed by the compère for the evening, Nick Wallis, television presenter and a familiar face on BBC1’s The One Show.

The night was introduced by Blaise Tapp, Communities Content Editor of Sussex Newspapers, which publishes the Herald.

On stage Mr Tapp interviewed James Stoner of JSPC Computers, the principal sponsor of the awards.

During the ceremony Mr Stoner officially handed over his role as headline sponsor to Peter Webb, managing director of ETI Ltd, who will take on the mantle from next years.

Other winners included Worthing’s Ice Rink which triumphed in the hospitality, tourism and leisure category while Parkview Acupuncture & Chiropractic Clinic won the Readers’ Choice award, which was subject to a public vote.

Dignitaries in attendance included local politicians and Cllr Michael Donin, the mayor of Worthing and Linda Williams, the mayoress.

Jeanette Hockley, of JP South Events and the organiser of the awards, said: “The Adur and Worthing Business Awards are always a highlight of the year down here on the coast and tonight was no different.

“I would like to thank our headline sponsor JSPC Computers and partners at the chamber of commerce and councils for making tonight possible.”
