A woman has jetted off to America to take part in the 36th International Whistlers' Convention (IWC) and raise money for charity.
Bracklesham resident Johanna Branston will take part in the competition at Louisburg, North Carolina for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT).

Mrs Branston has had two family members diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in the past eight years, and knows fir
st-hand the importance of the work being carried out by the charity.

"I didn't even know the championships existed until I heard about it on the radio," said Mrs Branston.

"I found it had been going for 36 years. People from all over the world take part in it."

The event will span four days and contestants have to choose to whistle a popular or classical song.

Mrs Branston learnt in January she would be one of 55 participants taking part in the adult section of the competition after submitting four sample pieces to the organisers.

She aims to raise £5,000 for the CFT and has already raised £3,000.

To make a donation, log on to www.justgiving.com/whistlingforcft or send a cheque made payable to The Cystic Fibrosis Trust at 11 London Road, Bromley, Kent BR1 1BY.
