Stalls encouraged the hundreds of visitors to spend their money for good causes by buying plants and jewellery, while a tombola and a Punch and Judy show were also held at Beach Green, Lancing on Saturday, July 5.

Lion John Hollington said: "The main event of the day was the donkey derby.

"The donkeys were provided by a Surrey-based company and the riders were from a local riding school – they all enjoyed the afternoon.

"There were six races in all, including a champions' race at the end of the afternoon.

"Rosettes were presented to the first, second and third riders after each race, and one for the overall champion."
